How do you choose the right type of paving stone?
At NordBrik, we want to not only provide good quality and a varied assortment of paving stones, but also demonstrate our understand customers and the pricing of paving.
What decides the pricing of paving?
The paving stone market is broad. Anyone who’s been involved in paving works understands this. There is no shortage of offers, but how can you find the proper combination of quality, price and service?
In NordBrik’s experience, price is one of the priorities when it comes to choosing the type paving stone and the manufacturer. Paving stone prices can fluctuate from EUR 4/m2 to EUR 25/m2. This begs the question – what is the reason for such a broad price range? See the answer below.
The price of paving stone depends on the following criteria:
- Pavestone tickness
- Type of treatment
- Delivery location
- Raw material certification
- Customer service quality and other criteria.
The standard thicknesses of paving stone are 50, 60, 80, 10 and 120 mm. Both manufacturing and sales costs depend on the thickness selected. It is important to remember that each thickness is intended for certain functions and loads. NordBrik homepage provides product designations for each type of paving stone – intended uses with appropriate symbols.
Paving stone made from concrete aggregates is usually grey. Consequently, grey products are cheaper than colourful ones. According to the customer’s wishes, paving stone may be painted in various colours.
There are several standard colours in the industry: red, black, brown and yellow. The average price of painted paving stone is EUR 1/m2 higher than unpainted paving stone. Through the use of the latest manufacturing technologies, paving is manufactured in two layers. The aggregates that make up the upper layer ( ~10% of the height of paving stone) are painted. This accounts for 5 mm for 50 mm paving. The colours blue, green and white are rarely used within the industry. Therefore, paving in these colours is more expensive.
Today, various technologies are available for the diversification of the visual appearance of paving. The newer the technology, the better the processing method. Innovations optimise manufacturing processes and improve then quality of products.
Colouring matter on white cement – white cement is considered a relative novelty, represented on the market mainly by importers. Binding agents of this kind complement the brightness of added colouring matter.
Use of white cement in the manufacturing process raises the cost of paving stone by EUR 3/m2.
Surface washing – this effect is obtained in the manufacturing process with the help of a water jet that washes the paving stone surface. This processing method has a specific effect on the surface, uncovering the texture of granite chip in the upper layer of the paving stone.
The costs of this processing method EUR 3/m2.
Colour Mix – modern auxiliary manufacturing facility enables simultaneous deposition of various colouring matters in the upper layer of the paving stone. The upper layer of the paving stone is manufactured using white cement in order to highlight the efficiency of the colour mixture. This is one of the most popular processing methods among NordBrik customers.
The costs of this process or paving and plates is EUR 4/m2.
Paving stone surface impregnation – innovative auxiliary facility enables us to process paving stone with a special impregnating, protective coating during the manufacturing process. This coating repels dirt, keeping the product looking brighter and making it easier to maintain. This processing method is comparatively cheap – EUR 2/m2.
Stone texture technology – when manufacturing paving stone in two layers, this technology allows stone chips of various origin and fractions to be deposited in the upper layer of concrete. These stone chips include marble, basalt and granite. White cement is also used in the manufacturing process. This surface processing method is the most expensive one, because raw materials for small chips for the upper layer are purchased mainly from various importers.
Delivery costs – when purchasing paving stone, additional costs related to the delivery of these heavy construction materials to the customer must be taken into account. The average cost of delivery and unloading is EUR 1.20/km. Delivery without unloading costs EUR 0.90/km. Frequently, thanks to cooperation between the manufacturer and logistics companies, delivery can be provided on the way to some other destination, thus significantly reducing the transportation costs. When ordering paving stone in full freights, additional costs per m2 will be lower.
Other criteria for the cost of paving stone: palettes for transportation – EUR 7/pc.
Reloading of materials in narrow streets and yards – EUR 40/hour.
